If you ever watched Happy Days, You must read this book. It brought back so much nostalgia.

The Last Songbird

This “neo-noir” mystery struck me as a muddled mess. At times the writing was good, at times some characters were interesting, at times parts of the plot were absorbing. But then it would just kind of fall apart. Also, considering it involves the death of an iconic singer/songwriter being investigated by a supposedly brilliant though unknown songwritier, the lyrics throughout the book were, for the most part, rather pathetic.

This book was highly entertaining, particularly if you’re a fan of The Great British Bake-Off (which I am). It’s a quick, light read. The mystery isn’t all that mysterious, but still—-I simply had fun reading this book.

The Librarianist

This book was enjoyable, but decidedly uneven. The central figure is a rather isolated retired librarian; the narrative starts with his current situation, then switches to two episodes in his past before returning to his present. For me, the second of those past episodes rather derails the book, not really adding anything to either the plot or the character development. But I cared enough about Bob to finish reading.

Mostly Harmless

I love love love Douglas Adams--his witty humour is so fun and his characters are somehow simultaneously realistic and out of this world. These books are hard to describe but always great to recommend.

I was rather disappointed with this latest John Rebus novel. It seemed too complex and strangely disjointed.
